Doctors are human beings, they get ill too Society views doctors as being immune to all illnesses Doctors rarely declare their ill-state!....fear? Sick doctors regarded as being weak?.....by who? Doctors fear surgical procedures…..why? Doctors fear medical expenses......from colleagues? Lack of comprehensive medical scheme…..reasons? Extended family expectations….. 20 th April 2016

Overview’ contin’ What is fair pay? Most doctors at Physiological level!..(Maslow’s hierarchy of needs)..why? Lack of adequate mentorship programs…role professional structures? Practice of collegiality…hindered by generational gap? Why young fear old? Why old abuse young? Lack of sufficient induction at entry point 20 th April 2016

CURRENT WORK ENVIRONMENT Most doctors self medicate till complications arise….general observation Some fear to be examined by colleagues, especially females….e.g. speculum exam, Digital Rectal Exam(DRE) Abuse from disgruntled patients Some doctors charge their colleagues consultation and procedure fee. Really! Physical, mechanical, chemical, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards. 20 th April 2016

CURRENT ENVIRON’ CONTIN ’ Inadequate protective gear e.g masks has lead to TB spread to doctors from patients Inadequate isolation facilities…recent outbreaks e.g ebola, influenza A & B No vaccination policies for doctors and other healthcare workers. No compensation for unquantifiable injuries at work e.g needle pricks 20 th April 2016

CURRENT ENVIRON’ CONTIN ’ Poor pay both demoralize doctors Stagnated promotions in public service Scheme of service of 1994 edition Doctors care less about their welfare, hoping somebody shall Doctors love their work instead of respecting it. Dismal knowledge of regulatory laws 20th April 2016
