Using Destiny The Online Library Catalog
2
What is Destiny? Destiny is what we use for a library catalog A library catalog is a listing of all of the materials available in the library You can use Destiny from any computer that is connected to the Internet!
3
How to find Destiny From anywhere you can go to: http://www.highschool.mahtomedi.k12.mn.us and click on Academics / Digital Library / Card Catalog / High School OR http://www.middleschool.mahtomedi.k12.mn.us/ and click on Academics / Media Center-Library / Destiny Card Catalog / Middle School
4
How to search with Destiny The default search is “keyword.” If you enter a search term and press “enter” it will search via keyword. Keyword is typically the easiest way to search if you are not sure what you are looking for (i.e. “dogs” or “wrestling”)
5
Ways to search… Keyword is the default search and is best for searching common, simple terms such as “flowers.” You can search by Title. You must have the correct title with the correct spelling for this search to be effective. You can also search by Author. Again, correct spelling is important.
6
…more ways to search… You can search by Subject. This is not recommended because it only searches very specific subjects. This is usually only used by the librarian. You can search by Series. You probably will not use this much because if you are familiar with a series you could just search by title or author instead.
7
OK…now how do I find my book? First make sure the book is checked IN Use the CALL NUMBER to locate the book on the shelf “FIC” means the Fiction section, Dewey Numbers mean the Non-Fiction section
8
What order are the books in? Fiction books are in alphabetical order by the author’s last name Non-fiction books are arranged using the Dewey Decimal System----which is by category or subject
9
What Destiny shows you…
10
The book you want is out? You can ask the Librarian to please put the title “on hold” for you. When the book is returned you will be notified and you may check it out. Any questions?
