Needs assessment As result of appraisal, formulation of PDP www.appraisals.nhs.uk Review PDP’s & previous appraisals Opportunistic/on-the-job needs E.g. PUNs & PENs, Diary, Significant Events, Feedback Use of internet resources or keep templates/shortcuts on desktop, intranet, or clinical system.. Find one method that suits you and stick to it Keep open on toolbar, cut &paste/drag & drop as you go Can all be uploaded to Appraisals website

RSS feeds Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content (eg blogs, news, podcasts) Keeps you up to date with favourite sites automatically Read using a "feed reader" or an “aggregator." Google NewsGator.com Awasu Subscribe to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser

Recording your learning Try to use one resource for all the different steps Save documents (articles, studies, certificates etc) or their hyperlinks Use Trackers if available Annotate your learning to reinforce it..can cut & paste relevant sections Add in 3 rd party resources e.g teaching presentations – useful if you have regular educational meetings

Bringing it all together…Web 2.0 Improved form of World Wide Web A concept of how it’s used, rather than an upgrade Using web browser as a software platform Mimics some PC software e.g. Word, Excel “Plug-ins, Widgets, Gizmos, Extensions” Interactive, more user friendly Social networking aspects NOT SCARY, honest!

In summary…. Learning is an essential part of our practice It can be hard work and time-consuming It works best if needs-led and self-motivated Using IT-related tools can save time and create useful resources for us and our patients They are easy to use and don’t require specialist skills
