Typography Sculpture
2
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point size, line length, line-spacing (leading), letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space within letters pairs (kerning). Font is an assortment or set of type or characters all of one style and sometimes one size.

Cutting Demo This is going to be difficult, you will struggle and that is a good thing If you are using an exacto knife, make sure you have a mat underneath you. This is protecting our tables. Never cut towards your self with scissors. For exacto knifes if I see you misusing them… you no longer get to use them for the REST OF THE YEAR. Tips: Take a rolling pin and flatten down the card board. Alternate between scissors and the exacto knife. PACITENCE! Cut through the top layer, the middle slates and then through the bottom layer.

Sinks need to be clean at end of class. If they can fit, place letters into your cubbie to dry. If they cannot, place them on the drying rack. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON THEM! Tacky Glue It is not an instant adhesive though does get tacky quickly. Plan to hold, support, brace, etc… your letters to ensure they stay together. Don’t be stingy with this however don’t use gobs of it. It is water based so be careful how you use it around your letters if you have painted them already. Acrylic paint is also water based.
