Read the article on page 25. Main Ideas: A hundred years ago, most farmers in the United States were small farmers. Now large farming companies do more and more of the farming. Many small farmers can't compete. They sell their farms and move their families to the city. The article on pages is about a farm family in North Dakota who recently moved to the city. The move to the city was so easy Mr. Halley found a job as a scientist at North Dakota State University. Prepared by: Laila al-Hasan

His income doubled and the family enjoyed the city way of life. But, Mr. Halley feels the pull out of the land every day. So, he drives back to his old farm every week. the kids like their new schools, the quick internet connection and the close by shopping mall where they shop for clothes and CDs. Read the article then answer the following questions. Why does Mr. Halley drive back to his old farm once a week? Mr. Halley drives back to his old farm to work a small piece there once a week. He feels the pull out of the land, so he wishes to keep the connection with the land. Are the Halleys happy they decided to sell the farm? Yes they are. Mr. Halley’s income has doubled.
