Excellence in Collections A museum development tool administered by the Collections Trust on behalf of the international cultural heritage community

Summary Excellence in Collections is a development tool and validation service which allows museums and other collections-holding organisations to demonstrate their commitment to delivering public value and excellence in Collections Management Excellence in Collections consists of 4 elements: – Initial organisational review – Recommendations report – Review and assessment – Awarding of the ‘Excellence in Collections’ marque EXCELLENCE IN COLLECTIONS

‘Excellence in Collections’ Award Museums achieving Excellence in Collections status are awarded the Excellence in Collections marque, which can be used: – To highlight the museum’s commitment to best practice and standards in Collections Management – In funding proposals, annual reports and other promotional material – To raise professional awareness of the museum’s leadership in the field of Collections Management EXCELLENCE IN COLLECTIONS

Components Excellence in Collections is structured around the following standards and frameworks: – SPECTRUM: The UK & International Collections Management Standard published by the Collections Trust and trusted by over 23,000 museums in 40 countries; – BSI PAS 197 Code of Practice for Cultural Collections Management – The Collections Management Competency Framework – The Collections Management KPI Framework EXCELLENCE IN COLLECTIONS

How it works Excellence in Collections is based on straightforward process of review, development, assessment and award. Re-validation takes place every 3 years Step 1: Download the Excellence in Collections materials Step 2: Apply for Excellence in Collections validation Step 3: Onsite review and assessment Step 4: Recommendations and development support Step 5: Final review and assessment Step 6: Award and recognition of Excellence in Collections status EXCELLENCE IN COLLECTIONS

Pricing Excellence in Collections resources, toolkits and self-assessment questionnaire are provided free of charge Validation and support are available to members on a tiered basis: BANDANNUAL MEMBERSHIP (plus VAT) Application fee£400 Tier 1: Turnover £2m plus per annum£5,000 Tier 2: Turnover £501k - £2m per annum£3,500 Tier 3: Turnover £500k or less£1,500 EXCELLENCE IN COLLECTIONS
