Hanami in Japan 日本京都櫻花戀曲

一. Introduction: Hanami means to enjoy Sakura. Kyoto is a great place to enjoy Sakura because Kyoto is an antique city with quaint architecture and there are plenty of places to enjoy Sakura. The blossom of Sakura is from late March to early April.

It will take you three or four days to visit all Sakura in Kyoto. Basically, you can just visit Kyoto by bus, train, and on foot. To better understand, you can get a map and the information of Sakura at the Information Corner, which is in the second floor of Kyoto Station.

Transportation to Kyoto: (1) Japan Railway, 特 急電車 Haruka(every half hour) Time: 75min, Money: 3430yen (2). Bus Time: 115min, Money: 2300yen * Be sure to make a reservation.

Second Day : Western Kyoto Second Day : Western Kyoto 1. Arashiyama 嵐山 is a pleasant area of Kyoto, named after a nearby mountain, and is popular among young Japanese people. Its landmark is the wooden bridge with beautiful, forested hills as backdrop.

~How to go~ (1) Take JR Sagano Line from Kyoto Station to Saga-Arashiyama Station, and it is a 5-10 minute walk into the center of Arashiyama. (2) Take the small train of the Keifuku Railways and then the Hankyu Arashiyama Line. The Keifuku station is located in the center of Arashiyama.

2. Tenryuji 天龍寺 is a Zen temple in the Arashiyama. It has been ranked first among the city's "Five Great Zen Temples".

~How to go~ Train: (1) Take the small Keifuku train from Kyoto Station. Tenryuji is just a few steps from the Keifuku Arashiyama terminal station. (2) Take the JR Sagano Line, and 15minutes later get off at Arashiyama Station. The JR Saga- Arashiyama Station is a 5 minute walk from Tenryuji.

Third Day: Eastern Kyoto 1. Path of Philosophy 哲學之道 is a pleasant path besides a canal that connects Ginkakuji 銀閣寺 with Nanzenji 南禪寺. Cherry trees are planted along most of the over one kilometer long path, making it one of Kyoto's most popular spots for hanami in spring. The trees are usually in bloom in the beginning to mid April.

~How to go~ Bus: Take City Bus 4,7, or 100 at Kyoto station and get of at Ginkakuji bus station. Start the walk at Gginkakuji.

2. Heian Shrine 平安神社 is dedicated to the first and last emperors that reigned from Kyoto, Emperor Kammu and Emperor Komei. The shrine buildings are a partial replica of the Imperial Palace of the Heian Period. There is a nice garden behind the shrine which features many cherry trees.

~How to go~ (1) Bus : Take City Bus number 5 or 100 from Kyoto Station. (2) Subway: Take Subway from Kyoto Station to Higashiyama Station on the Tozai Line, and take 10 minute walk to the shrine.Bus Kyoto Station

3. Kiyomizudera 清水寺 is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. Its remains associated with the Hosso sect, one of the oldest sects within Japanese Buddhism.

~How to go~ Bus: Take City Bus number 100 or 206 from Kyoto Station, and 15 minutes later get off at Kiyomizu-michi or Gojo-zaka. Then take 10-15 minute uphill walk to the temple.

Forth Day: Central Kyoto 1. 金閣寺 : Kinkakuji is a Zen temple. The Golden Pavilion functions as shariden, housing sacred relics of the Buddha and is covered in gold leaf.ZentempleBuddha

~How to go~ (1) Bus: Take bus number 101 or 205 from Kyoto Station. (2) Subway: Take the Karasuma Subway Line to Kitaoji Station from where the temple can be reached by a short bus ride.bus Kyoto Station

2. Pontocho 先斗町 is one of Kyoto's traditional nightlife districts where you might be able to spot a geisha apprentice at night. In the evenings, the narrow street offers a great atmosphere and lots of restaurants and teahouses.

~How to go~ Bus: The closest bus stop to Pontocho at Shijo-dori is Shijo Kawaramachi, which is served by ten bus lines, including lines 17 and 205 from Kyoto Station.bus

3. 祇園 Gion is Kyoto's most famous geisha district. To experience the traditional Gion, stroll along Hanami-koji, a street lined by beautiful old buildings, teahouses and restaurants. In the evenings, you may be able to spot a geisha apprentice. ~How to go~ (1) Bus Take City Bus number 100 and 206 at the Kyoto station and about 20 min later get off at Gion bus stop. (2) Train The closest train station is Keihan Shijo Station.

Fifth Day: Kyoto Taipei ● Traffic to Osaka Kansai International Airport: (1) Take Japan Railway from Kyoto Station to Osaka Kansai Station. (2) Take Bus From Kyoto Station to Osaka Station. Be sure to make a reservation.
