Class Schedule 8:00-9:00 – Morning Meeting, Spelling/Grammar 9:00-11:00 – Literacy Block 11:00-11:30 – Science/Social Studies 11:30-12:10 – Recess/Lunch 12:10-12:35 – Begin Math 12:35-1:05 – Specials for days 1,2,4,5 1:10-2:10 – Continue Math 2:10-2:30 – Finish up odds/ends, Snack, Read Aloud *On Days 3 & 6, we have specials at different times in the p.m.

Saxon Math 4 th grade curriculum based on CTA model Introducing one new concept a day Continuous review Students continuously tested on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division math facts

Spalding Spelling 70 phonograms (students learn by seeing, saying, listening and writing). All learning styles are represented. 30 words/week. Enter 10 words daily Mon-Wed. Test on following Friday. Words are given in a list on Mondays. They are also on my website, and on spelling.com

Spalding Handwriting Very precise lettering They practice when entering spelling words, (letters sitting on the baseline, short letters half the size of tall letters, clock letters (a,o,c,d,q) starting at 2 o’clock. Cursive starting 2 nd quarter. Homework Mon.-Wed.

Reading Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Text - Literature that incorporates reading strategies and skills that compliment the Spalding Method. Accelerated Reader Program (AR) - Students read literature at their own levels and earn points to reach their goals by taking online comprehension quizzes.

Writing Houghton Mifflin Harcourt writing exercises that will compliment the reading lessons being taught. Writing will be assessed on a 6 trait rubric: (content, sentence fluency, conventions; punctuation & spelling, word choice, organization, and voice).

Homework Homework is assigned Mon-Thurs, 25-40 min., plus 20-30 min. of reading. Homework is due the following a.m. with the exception of longer projects. Unfinished homework is expected to be completed at recess or the following night. It is the students’ responsibility to complete their homework sheets daily. (It is not your fault if it is not signed. They need to remember to remind their parents to fill out reading lines, and sign forms). Forgotten spelling words can be accessed online. No excuses! In Case of Absence: If possible, let me know early in the day, and I can have homework in the office by noon for your child. Poetry Recitations: Two poems each quarter. First poem is due August 20 th.

Classroom Expectations School wide Behavior Ladder: Level 4: Democracy Level 3: Cooperation Level 2: Bossing/Bullying Level 1: Anarchy Daily behavior is indicated on homework sheet. If the student receives a 1 or 2, you’ll see a note from me, or the student will be bringing home a self- reflection sheet to be filled out and returned. Consequences: Email or call parents, move to another desk/classroom to continue work, possible future behavior plan and principal involvement. Rewards: Treasure box, notes/calls/emails to home, class earned activity.

Odds and Ends After-school pick-up: Remember to have your bright orange sign visible on your dashboard. Birthday Treats: Need to be something fast, store bought, and easy to eat. We will celebrate the last 5 minutes of the day, and the treats are eaten on the way out the door. Gator of the week: Bring a poster on “regular” poster board and show and tell by Friday of that week.
