Elementary vs. Secondary Grading
12
Elementary School Grading LEARNING PROCESS The behaviors that students learn are very important. The behaviors that promote learning are: cooperation with others, participation in discussions, respect for others, producing quality work, and using class time well. C – Consistently O – Often S – Sometimes R - Rarely ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE Each subject area identifies list of skills and concepts that represent grade level expectations. Students will receive a 4, 3, 2, or 1 to indicate their academic performance in each area. 4 – Exceeding standard at this time. 3 – Meeting standard at this time. 2 – Developing toward standard at this time. 1 – Significantly below standard at this time.

Secondary Grading 11-POINT GRADING SCALE Academics 4 3 2 1 Citizenship 4 3 2 1
14
Example of Teacher Syllabus Academic Expectations: Grades are calculated by taking the points earned divided by points possible. Tests are worth ~60%, Homework ~25%, Classroom Participation ~10%, Drills ~5%. I post grades online at: www.nsd.org/progressreportswww.nsd.org/progressreports I can print progress reports for people who do not have online access. Grade scale is: A 92.5‐100% A‐ 90‐92.4 B+ 86.5‐89.9 B 82.5‐ 86.4 B‐ 80‐ 82.4 C+ 76.5‐79.9 C 72.5‐76.4 C‐ 70‐ 72.4 D 60.1‐69.9 F >60 Participation in class will be worth ~10% of your grade. You must bring all supplies to class, do the warm-up or drill, discuss problems during pair/shares, take notes, attempt white board problems, work on the assignment during designated times, and work positively with your peers during group activities. Taking speaking turns are important, and can be done by speaking in small groups, offering to explain an answer to the class, or asking questions about how a problem is solved. Asking questions of your peers and me is strongly encouraged. Being attentive and quiet while others are speaking is part of participating in a learning environment.
