Welcome Parents! Welcome to 6 th grade! I am very excited to be working with you and your child this year. This information is here to help and serve as a guide for you, but feel free to call or email me at any time.

School Policies Cell phones off during school hours. Students may call home anytime in the Assistant Principals Office. No Gum Dress Code will be enforced –First warning: change clothes –Second warning: parents notified –Third warning: Saturday school Tardy students will be given two warnings then they will be issued a lunch detention

Class Rules 1.Be in your seat when the bell rings 2.Come to class prepared 3.No arguing with the ref 4.Raise your hand 5.Stay in your seat 6.Follow School Rules School motto: “I am responsible for myself.” Follow the Golden Eagle Rule: treat others as I wish to be treated

Classroom Procedures Math always done in pencil. Papers in the 3 Ring Binder. Homework written in the planner daily. Check with their Study Buddy when they return from an absence from school. When in doubt………..ask!

TenMarks – http://www.tenmarks.com/ Supplemental math program we will be piloting this year. Username: Student log in will be smusd followed by the student ID #, leaving no spaces. Password: Student’s birthday backwards YYYMMDD

Each child has a Study Buddy chosen Responsibilities- collect the homework for their Buddy who is absent. District policy is one day for every day that you are absent. Going on a trip? Let us know and we can put together the homework before you go Study Buddies

Homework/Class work Homework/class work will be assigned and will account for 20% of the overall math grade. Science homework/ class work accounts for 50% of the overall science grade. Homework will be given Monday-Thursday for math and will vary for science. Homework is a valuable extension from what is taught in class, and it is important that students complete their homework every night.

Grading System Point system Tests/quizzes=70% of grade for math. Tests/quizzes= 50% of grade for science. Citizenship grades are based upon compliance to the school and classroom rules. More extensive assignments will be worth more points Late work= Not accepted for science. Math: late work will be accepted prior to the Unit Test for 70% credit. Department policy.

Synergy Please check your child’s grades on Synergy. There is a Parent View and Student View. Check grades for accuracy Let the Counseling Department know if you are having any problems with the grading program.

Chromebook 1 to 1 Each student will have access to a chromebook throughout the year. Some activities are: Research Collaborate Presentations

Materials 3 ring binder over 2” (anything less than this is too small!) College ruled lined paper ( please no perforated, tear-out sheets) Dividers for subjects A protractor, ruler, a safety tipped compass, a red, green or purple pen for corrections (math.) 2 pencils that work and have lead (regular #2) 2 pens black, green, or blue (NEVER FOR MATH COMPUTATIONS ) A highlighter, colored pencils A hand held pencil sharpener that catches the shavings An eraser Leisure reading book Student Planner

PRIDE Program and RISE Program After school or before school classes. HW Club led by certificated teachers Days to be determined Applications will be available soon Return applications to counseling

Library Available for students before school and during some lunches for quiet study, reading, research, and to check books in and out Check daily the Lunch schedule. Must come prepared with own pens, pencils, and paper
