LINCWorks Mesh Networking User Guide
2
This user guide will give a brief overview of mesh networking followed by step by step instructions for configuring the network using an RDA or VAN Motion unit –This guide assumes no changes have previously been made to the RDA or VAN such as changing the gateway IP address or DCHP settings There are two types of mesh networks –Full connected mesh –Partially connected mesh Fully connected mesh network –Each node connected to each other Partially connected mesh network –Not all nodes directly connected, nodes connected via point-to-point link Mesh traffic is done on completely separate SSID then user or client traffic –Easy way to ensure this is to change mesh channel frequency to 5 GHz Introduction to mesh networking Olea Networks Confidential
3
The following slides concern the configuration of the RDA that will be used to pass it’s data connection on to the attached units. HOST RDA SETUP Olea Networks Confidential
4
In order to access this portal, you must be connected either directly through the Ethernet RJ-45 port or through the wifi network –The default SSID is motion-xxxxxx where xxxxxx is the serial of the SIM card –The default password is 1234554321 Once connected to the device open an internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 into the URL box –Screenshots taken during this guide are using the Google Chrome browser This will take you to the screen shown on this page Step 1 : Access the host admin portal Olea Networks Confidential
5
The default username is “root” –The default password is blank –Hit enter or click login to get past the authentication It is highly recommended at this stage to change the password used to login to the device To do this go to the System->Administrator tab shown below –Change the password to something you will not forget as if you forget you will be permanently locked out of the device Step 2 : Login to admin portal Olea Networks Confidential
6
The “host” is the device that all the meshed units will receive the data connection from –Even in partially connected mesh networks, all nodes must be connected either directly or through another node to this device Go to the Network Interface tab –Click ‘Edit’ under the LAN network –Ensure that the protocol is Static Address The default IPv4 address is 192.168.1.1 (note: this is the IP you entered in the web browser to access this portal) –This can be changed but remember if changed to another private IP address if you prefer but you must remember what it is changed to or you won’t be able to access this portal again The default net mask is 255.255.255.0 –This can be changed as well but unless there will need to be over 250 users per box it is better to leave as is –Scroll down to DHCP server settings Make sure the checkbox to disable DHCP is NOT checked (this is the case by default) Step 3 : Setup the host RDA DCHP server Olea Networks Confidential

8
Go to the Network Wifi tab Choose a channel for the mesh network –Recommended: Choose a 5GHz channel such as channel 40 Scroll down to Interface Configuration –Choose an SSID for your network This SSID will not be viewable by user devices, used only for mesh backhaul –Make sure the Mode is set to 802.11s and the lan checkbox is checked under Network –Select the Wireless Security tab Change the encryption and key –Select the MAC-filter tab if you want to only allow certain devices on your network for added security Note: Remember all these settings as they will have to be identical on all devices attached to your mesh network Step 4 : Setup the host RDA wireless mesh Olea Networks Confidential
9
Step 4 : Setup the host RDA wireless mesh screenshots Olea Networks Confidential Network Wifi Edit mesh wifi
10
Go to the System Startup tab Scroll down to the Local Startup section Type the following in the text box after the network APN setup and sleep 10 text –#mesh setup –iw wlan1 mesh join meshIDxx Where meshIDxx is the ID you set for your mesh network –This can be anything you want it to be however must be the same on all devices attached to the mesh network Step 5 : Edit the host RDA startup Olea Networks Confidential
11
The following slides concern the configuration of the attached devices making up the mesh network. Client/Node RDA/VAN setup Olea Networks Confidential
12
Follow the same steps as in Step 1 to access the admin portal of the second RDA/VAN Step 6 : Access the client admin portal Olea Networks Confidential
13
Go to the Network Wifi tab –Click edit under the mesh SSID Copy all the settings you set on Step 4 from the host device Step 7 : Change the client mesh wifi Olea Networks Confidential
14
Go to the System Startup tab Scroll down to the Local Startup section Type the following in the text box after the network APN setup and sleep 10 text –#mesh setup –iw wlan1 mesh join meshIDxx Where meshIDxx is the ID you set for your mesh network –This should be the same ID that you set up for your host device Step 8 : Edit the client RDA startup Olea Networks Confidential
15
Go to Network Interfaces tab and edit the LAN network as in Step 3 –Change the IP address to a different address in the same subnet as your host device but not in the range of IP addresses your DHCP server is using for client addresses For example: If you left the host IP and DHCP settings as default, change this IP to 192.168.1.2 since the host default IP is 192.168.1.1 and the DHCP IP addresses don’t start until.100 Change the netmask to the same as the host device which was setup in Step 3 Change the gateway to the IP address of the host device –Using our example change this to 192.168.1.1 –Scroll down to the DHCP server settings Click the checkbox to disable the DHCP server After this step you will need to go to this new IP address to access the client’s admin portal Step 9 : Change the client IP address Olea Networks Confidential
16
Additional node setup Olea Networks Confidential
17
All additional nodes need to be configured following the same steps as Steps 6-9 Each device must have a separate IP address but have the IP gateway set to the IP address of the host RDA Step 10 : Change additional client IP addresses Olea Networks Confidential
