Problem Statement Since the backhaul link of a Femto ABS may disconnect from network and reconnect to network sometimes, the proposed method for handling the associated AMSs to leave and return the recovered Femto ABS should be designed in order to –continue the services, and –optimize the network performance –Interference Mitigation. 2

Problem Statement In case the AMS can not find a near Femto or macro ABS to access, it should use a high power to Tx its data. It definitely will interfere the other Macro/Femto ABSs and/or AMSs [1]. 3

Handover Trigger The WiMAX Forum document “Requirements for WiMAX Femtocell Systems V1.0” states that –A Femto ABS SHALL disable its downlink air interface transmitter until the connection with the operator’s network is fully established. As the serving Femto ABS loses the backhaul connection, it shall command all the associated AMSs to perform handover procedure. –The handover request signal shall include the reason code, which is used to notify the AMSs to record the original Femto ABS information (e.g., Femto ABS ID) and wait for any callback signal. 4

Call-back handover procedure After the Femto ABS reconnects to the network, the Femto ABS notify the network HO controller to initiate the call-back handover procedure for generating the callback HO message with the original Femto ABS ID in order to call back those AMSs who have recorded the information of original Femto ABS. Upon receipt of the call-back handover signal from serving ABS, the AMS will try to handover to the recorded Femto ABS if the signal quality is better than the current connection. 5

Femto ABS initiates handover when the backhaul link is lost 6

Network-initiated Call-back handover procedure 7

Proposed Text [Add the following section 16.x.x “Call-back Handover Support”] 16.x.x Call-back Handover Support After the backhaul connectivity is recovered, the Femto ABS should inform the network controller to issue call-back handover signals with Femto ABS ID to the related ABSs for notifying those AMSs, which have stored the information of Femto ABS, to handover back. 8
