Acts 20:27 "Passover Passages"1

26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. "Passover Passages"2

 There is much said about the Passover Feast ◦ An ordinance delivered by Moses  Genesis 12:43 ◦ A feast of the Jewish people to remind them of their deliverance from the death of the first born and hasty departure from Egypt  Exodus 12-13:16 ◦ Observed in the 14 th day of the first month Abib or Nisan  Leviticus 23:5  Our lesson is not about this Passover Day ◦ But, about passages “passed over” by our brethren and religionists today "Passover Passages"3

4

30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. "Passover Passages"5

 Many focus only on “believe” - vs. 31  Cannot “passover” verses 32-34  The word had to be spoken so they could believe ◦ Romans 10:12-17  Washing their strips was a fruit of repentance  Baptized “staightway” shows urgency "Passover Passages"6

3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. "Passover Passages"7

 Many focus on the sin of remarriage - vs. 9 ◦ Some believe divorce is not sinful unless one remarries ◦ Some believe you can divorce for any cause ◦ Some believe you can remarry for only one cause  Must not “passover” the phrase… ◦ “…for every cause…” - vss. 3-6  Unscriptural remarriage adds sin on sin… ◦ Causing “adultery” - Matthew 5:32; 19:6 "Passover Passages"8

15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. "Passover Passages"9

 Generally focus is on the thief and evildoer  Cannot “passover” the “busybody” ◦ Allotrioepiskopos — Allotrios (belonging to another) episkopos (overseer).  A self-appointed overseers of another’s business - meddler - ASV  cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:11: Proverbs 26:17; John 21:21, 22  A sin often associated with idleness  2 Thessalonians 3:11; 1 Timothy 5:13 ◦ Parents of married children often worst offenders  The other extreme is total disregard… ◦ Where one’s physical or spiritual condition is ignored  Galatians 6:1-2 "Passover Passages"10

17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. "Passover Passages"11

 Many focus on not causing division  Ephesians 4:1-3 ◦ To the expense of truth and purity ◦ To appease weak brethren with “itching ears”  2 Timothy 4:1-4  Cannot “passover” the phrase… ◦ “Contrary to the Doctrine”  There is something worse than division -error! ◦ Standing for truth often forces a division  Matthew 10:34-36; Galatians 1:10; 1 Corinthians 9:16  Ephesians 5:11; 2 Corinthians 6:14 "Passover Passages"12

22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. "Passover Passages"13

 Many only recognize the goodness of God ◦ They only talk of God’s love, mercy & grace  Too negative to acknowledge God’s wrath  We cannot “passover” God’s severity ◦ Romans 1:18; Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 3:6  God will save only those obedient to Him ◦ Hebrews 5:8, 9; Acts 17:30 ◦ 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9  What will you experience… ◦ God’s goodness or severity? "Passover Passages"14

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. "Passover Passages"15

 Many will condemn the just ◦ Preachers ◦ Elders ◦ Teachers ◦ Faithful brethren ◦ Any who oppose same sex marriage  Accused of intolerance, “homophobia”, hate  While justifying the wicked ◦ Many will even justify one who pleads guilty  Which is worse? ◦ Both are an abomination to the Lord! ◦ Cannot “passover” either one! "Passover Passages"16

 We must hold true to God’s word come what may  Cannot “passover” any of God’s word  Follow in the footsteps of the apostle Paul "Passover Passages"17

26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. "Passover Passages"18
