ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT THE GRADUATE LABOUR MARKET? Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) Annual Survey 2015 (published 9th Sept 2015) ‘ UK employers are reporting a 13.2% increase in the number of graduate vacancies this year compared to the 2014-2015.’ ‘ Average graduate salaries are up 3.7% from last year, rising from £27,000 to £28,000.’ ‘ The sectors with the largest growth in graduate vacancies are accounting and professional services (23.0%), the public sector (14.6%) and engineering and industrial firms (12.1%).’

Diversity Challenge: “The AGR Annual Survey [2015] reveals that the share of female graduates joining AGR employer programmes only averages 41.6%, even though 58.7% of graduates are women, according to statistics from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).” Stephen Isherwood, AGR Chief Executive

AVOIDING UNDEREMPLOYMENT Dan Hawes (Co-Founder of Graduate Recruitment Bureau) offers this advice to current students looking to avoid underemployment:Graduate Recruitment Bureau “Don’t just look at the obvious recruiters, as there’s thousands of hidden jobs out there. You should get smart, use social media, a recruitment agency, or go to a careers fair. Don’t give up. If you have a good job strategy, you will get there.”

MY TOP TIP FOR POSTING YOUR CV ON JOB BOARDS… Don’t do it!!! ‘…just having a quick look or blindly submitting your CV to as many job boards as possible isn’t really going to help you much. Job boards are competitive places. Indeed, employers posting on job boards might receive hundreds of applications, and recruiters will have thousands of CVs to sift through.’ All About CareersAll About Careers It’s about QUALITY not QUANTITY
