Conducting Witch Hunts 1.1450-1750 tens of thousands (mostly women) were killed for witchcraft 2.Most were killed in areas of religious conflict: – German states, France, Switzerland ***why the persecution? Most people believed in witches and Christianity*** – They think there are witches who are in league w/ the devil – Most are social outcasts or midwives, herbalists
