7. THE AMBITIOUS VISION is coming from Regional Strategy Programme 2030 where the long term vision was set but the new steps were formulated in Climate and Energy Programme 2020 (approved in the end of August 2011)

TARGET 1: FOSSIL OIL FREE HEATING 2020 HEATING NOW (2010)  District heating systems in all towns and cities (woodchips, peat …)  Bigger buildings (electricity, woodchips, oil, pellet …)  Smaller buildings (electricity, firewood, pellet, oil, heat pumps …)  About 700 GWh fossil oil based heating energy is used annually HEATING IN 2020  Nearly 100 % by RES  700 GWh of peat and fossil oil replaced by woodchips  150 GWh more small-scale CHP production  Biofuels for heating (biobased oil, pyrolyse oil)  Heat pumps and solar thermal

TARGET 1: FOSSIL OIL FREE HEATING 2020 It means 2010-2020: More woodchips, pellets, pyrolyse oil and other renewables like solar energy … (also heating pumps if electricity is produced by renewables) Fortum pyrolysis oil production investment in Joensuu is a good example of the decisions which are definitely needed!
