1. PHOTO ANALYSIS: What do you see? Everyone will receive a post-it note. Next, a photo will be displayed on the screen. Once the photo is displayed, take sixty seconds to simply observe. What do you see? What is happening in this picture? After the sixty seconds has expired, each student will find one thing about this picture that really stands out among the rest. That one thing will be written on the post-it note and one by one, students will make their way to the board and label their item.

4. A plague, carried by fleas, that swept Europe and Asia from 1347-1351. Because of this plague, Europe alone lost one third of its entire population. By the end of its terror, the traditional feudal and manorial land systems as well as the entire continent of Europe, had completely crumbled.

THE BLACK DEATH "The symptoms were not the same as in the East, where a gush of blood from the nose was the plain sign of inevitable death; but it began both in men and women with certain swellings in the groin or under the armpit. They grew to the size of a small apple or an egg, more or less, and were vulgarly called tumors. In a short space of time these tumors spread from the two parts named all over the body. Soon after this the symptoms changed and black or purple spots appeared on the arms or thighs or any other part of the body, sometimes a few large ones, sometimes many little ones. These spots were a certain sign of death, just as the original tumor had been and still remained.”
