Continued Rapid Growth of Majors Undergraduate public health major now number over 9,000 per year with rapid growth continuing. At many colleges and universities is among top 10 majors Growth most rapid among colleges and universities without graduate public health education

Growth In Minors and Course Work as Part of General Education Large number of colleges and universities without majors have begun minors in public health or global health Individual courses such as public health 101, global health 101, and epidemiology 101 as recommended by AAC&U are being taught as fulfilling general education distribution requirements New MCAT exam includes principles of study design and statistics as well as health behavior

New Community Colleges and Public Health Initiative ASPPH Community Colleges and Public Health report co-sponsored by the League for Innovation in the Community College (the League) encouraged associate degree programs including general public health, health education, and environmental health Aim is to articulate community college programs with bachelor’s degree programs Developed in collaboration with academic organizations including health education (SOPHE), health administration (AUPHA) and environmental health (AEHAP)

Community Colleges and Public Health Initiative Initiative sponsored by the League with close collaboration with ASPPH and SOPHE League’s “call for planning” has produce detailed plans for implementation including 6 award winning plans that will be featured at the League’s March 22 national “Innovations” meeting Plans underway for next steps to expand programs and encourage articulation

New ASPPH Public Health & Global Health Network Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health forming Network including wide spectrum of bachelor’s degree programs First meeting in November at APHA included over 100 participants Agenda will include increased communication and assistance with program administration Next meeting scheduled for March 20 at ASPPH Undergraduate Summit

ASPPH Undergraduate Public Health Summit 5 th ASPPH Undergraduate Public Health Summit will be held in Washington D.C. area on Sunday March 20 Includes plenary, breakout, and poster session covering range of undergraduate public health issue as well as networking opportunities Plan is to continue annual Summit on Sunday before annual ASPPH March meeting. CEPH Accreditation “Standalone” Programs First round of CEPH accreditation for standalone program will be completed this spring Accreditation based on “Critical Component Elements” of an undergraduate major in public health developed by ASPPH Accreditation is voluntary. New Bachelor’s Degree Eligibility For Certifying Examination In Public Health Certifying exam previously required masters level education New eligibility to take certify examination recently extended to those with bachelors degree. Bachelor’s degree, “core” public health education, and 5-years work experience required to take examination
