The filming Home and Abroad in Europe More detailed guidelines related to the storyboard

General The film will have to include a storyboard on which our teams of pupils worked eagerly. The scenario/storyboard pre-work will be the basis for photos to be prepared and taken by the pupils. These photos will need to represent the main ideas of the storyboard and be inserted in the film, most probably at the bottom right corner of the screen show. We could either anticipate one photo per season or two. If we find it manageable, we could then increase the number of photos per season.

General The main filming will consist of free shooting of landscape and scenes of everyday life, cultural events etc, in which the main ideas of the initial story will emerge. There will be four main sections of three minute duration each. The maximum length of the film is to be 12 minutes, and the minimum is 11 minutes. Each section will cover one of the four seasons of the year, beginning with summer and ending with spring

In the Summertime, the idea of the long hot Cyprus weather should be clear and the birth of a baby must be the symbolic element for the young Cypriot family. Scenes from homes or parks or the beach or the countryside etc, with young couples and grandparents showing the family with newborn babies as well as up to nursery school age babies, will be the main theme in this part.

In the Summertime A contrast of rural life and urban life can be shown through working women in town and women making ravioles and soutzouko in villages. The European presence will come through shots of cultural events at Paphos castle /Opera by European artists, ballet in Limassol and Shakespearean play at Kourion Theatre. Festival Cypria.

In the Summertime Cyprus is politically young at this stage (and throughout the seasons in the film, it will grow to become a political member of the European Union, equal to all the European Union countries).

In Autumn the Cypriot family has grown by ten years, so the generations on which our cameras focus now, are school pupils both primary and secondary school. Schools like Phaneromeni with multicultural communities and schools like the English school or public schools will show through free shots their commitment to European projects such as Comenius and assistantship benefits for the pupils. Cypriot literature and poems, music and art, as well as European artists or authors taught in school can show in the film. Our school is ideal for this.

In Autumn The weather does not change early in the season but I think that the transition through seasons must be symbolically distinct. So, here the yellow leaves of autumn originally suggested, could be here a heralding sign for the new season to show. It will help our reading -the- silent- film partners conceptualise the change of seasons. The wind is also a sign for autumn in Cyprus and a very typical one

In Autumn Landscapes of different parts of Cyprus, Platania with red and yellow leaves, open fields with or without flora showing windmills or other elements reminding economic, industrial or technological activities in Cyprus will have to alternate with scenes showing human presence.

In Winter the change of the weather can be made obvious by the falling of heavy rain, storms and snow on Troodos. The Cypriot family has grown by twenty years and the thirty fivish year old generation is now at the centre of attention. This generation of young professionals, journalists or other are cooperating with colleagues from beyond the borders of their country, and are extending the field of action in all trades. The economy, culture, education, politics are getting more open and more interactive in a converging multicultural world.

In Winter The airport, the Limassol port, wine industries, tourism with guided tours and hotels, bankers, accountants, lawyers, academics and government officials representing Cyprus in the European Union, will be the epicentre of this section. In the urban context we can include the European Master plan of Nicosia which takes into consideration the cultural and architectural heritage of this historical town. Monuments like the Venetian walls and the house of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios or the Omeriye Mosque and Turkish baths, The Famagusta gate and the Lusignan Palace window and more may show the activities and presence of the European Union in Cyprus.

In Winter It's winter, so the towns are decorated with Christmas trees or any other religious festivities, Bayram for the Turkish Cypriots, and anything that shows the culture and main religions as well as minority group religions will show the multicultural society of Cyprus which will add value to the content of the film. Nature is impressive during this season so, fauna ( salt lakes with flamingos or other birds and the Paphos forest which hosts the wild mouflon) with flora ( wild flowers and medicinal plants) will probably be a good idea. The snow covered Troodos but also the half-empty dams will also be a realistic feature of main concerns.

In the Springtime the change of the weather can be symbolically shown through flowers, the spring shining sun amidst clouds and Easter preparations with flaounes, tsourekia, koulouria, and red eggs and chocolate eggs. Rural and urban contrast will remind the beginning of the film but the end will be the 9th of May where the Cypriot family grown by another twenty years is now a full member of the European Union, the generation of the fifty-five year -old Cypriots who now deal with major European Union Issues and the Presidency of the Cyprus government lies ahead in this generation's hands.

In the Springtime The EU House in Cyprus offers a reception to all members of the European Union in Cyprus, thus forming the European Family in which the young state of Cyprus has grown to be a member of. Scenes from landscapes all around and festivities like the carnival as well as symbols of political life in Cyprus such as the Parliament, the Presidential Palace and the flags of the European Union showing in different places are important in this conclusion.
