Background Henry Ford Born: July 30, 1863 Died: April 7, 1947 Religion: Episcopalian From Greenfield Township, Michigan Father was from Ireland Had 4 siblings (Margaret, Jane, William, and Robert) His father gave him a pocket watch in his early teens. At 15, Ford dismantled and reassembled the timepieces of friends and neighbors dozens of times, gaining the reputation of a watch repairman. His father expected him to take over the family farm, but he wasn’t interested Married to Clara Ala Bryant One child named Edsel Ford Life spanned from the steam engine to the jet engine Steve Jobs Was given up for adoption by his parents. Jobs didn’t find out any info on his biological parents until he was 27 His adoptive mom was an accountant and his dad was a Coast Guard veteran and machinist As a boy, Jobs and his father would work on electronics in the family garage

Education Henry Ford Studied bookkeeping at Goldsmith, Bryant & Stratton Business College in Detroit Steve Jobs In grade school teachers had to bribe him to study Attended Homestead High School in CA Enrolled at Reed College in Portland and after 6 months dropped out and the next year and a half dropped in on creative classes

Early Jobs Henry Ford Worked as an apprentice machinist in Detroit with James F Flower & Bros. and Detroit Dry Dock Co. Returned home to work on the family farm and became adept at operating the Westinghouse steam engine Hired by Westinghouse to service their steam engines Became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company then was promoted to Chief Engineer Began experimenting with his personal experiments on gasoline engines which led to the creation of the self-propelled vehicle the Ford Quadricycle Steve Jobs Took a job with Atari in ’74. he later left for a spiritual journey to India and experimenting with psychedelic drugs. In ’76 started Apple Computers

Methods of becoming wealthy Henry Ford Was introduced to Thomas Edison who encouraged him to keep working and design another vehicle Was backed by the capital of Detroit lumber baron, William H Murphy Founded the Detroit Automobile Company Steve Jobs Started Apple in the family garage and funded their entrepreneurial venture after Jobs sold his Volkswagen bus and Wozniak sold his beloved scientific calculator

Philanthropy Henry Ford Historical preservation Preserved the Wayside Inn, near South Sudbury, Massachusetts “I have no patience with professional charity or with any sort of commercialized humanitarianism,” Ford wrote in 1923. “The moment human helpfulness is systematized, organized, commercialized, and professionalized, the heart of it is extinguished, and it becomes a cold and clammy thing.” Steve Jobs Was criticized for his lack of humanitarianism but it was later revealed of all his contributions Pixar held secret screening every year to raise money for College Track $50 million dollar donation to AIDS/HIV research Donated $50 million to Stanford hospitals to fund the construction of a children's medical center and a new main building.
