5 Nights of Camping
6
6 Take Your Best Shot !
7
7 Digital Cameras Buy as many pixels as you can afford Buy the biggest OPTICAL zoom you can afford Timer, long exposure, adjustable External Flash attachment Viewfinder LCD Movie Mode
8
8 Working with Digital Photos Naming convention: –YYYY-MM-DD text-nnn –2007-10-27 ACT-003 Crop to focus the viewer “mark” for future sorts –Name, activity, item, etc. Encourage setting the clock
9
9 Working with Digital Photos Software that comes with camera may not produce a usable “slide show” for COH Sort by name, chronologically, size, date taken, modified Display slide show Catalog and store photos Scan Photographs / Slides Download jpg from websites
10
10 Software Whatever software you choose, there will be a learning curve. Best to get a package that will do the most, thus the lowest time spent learning
11
11 Photo Software
12
Digital Image (Microsoft) Allows the standard photo touchup - red eye, exposure, etc. Also allows cataloging photos for later retrieval by date, subject, location, etc. This is VERY useful when doing an Eagle COH (Demo it) 12
13
13 Video Cameras Analog Camcorders –Playback on TV –Need to digitize to integrate into a “show” or create a DVD Digital Camcorders –A/V analog output –USB & Firewire –Easy integration into Windows –Need a BIG hard drive –HD Camcorders
14
14 Putting it together with music Music adds another dimension Need to “rip” the music (Roxio) Can “pace” the transitions to the beat of the music Requires external speakers for show May conflict with audio on video clips
15
15 Working with Movie Clips Clips, when properly recorded, are powerful additions to your message May need a separate piece of software to edit clips (Roxio) Some software allows you to cut the audio in the clip and “talk over”
16
16 Windows Movie Maker & Others Windows Movie Maker comes with Windows XP It’s “ok” Other programs offer more features, and are more complicated to use –Adobe Premiere Elements
17
17 Sharing the Photos You can be in the CD burning business “Publish” the photos on a secure server for download Publish on a web page No names on anything public
18
18 Sharing Photos On a web server that anyone can access Create your own server with a NAS to share via an FTP site –Only for DSL or Cable modem 24X7 –May need battery back up –Remote monitoring
19
19 Internal vs External Internal server (at your home) –Ultimate control –Fast file manipulation –Need your own firewall, protection, backup, maintenance Web Server –Maintenance is done by professionals –Monthly fee –Could be slow xfer rates
20
20 The COH Assemble the slides –Sort by name, activity, timeframe Add video clips Add titles Add music An Eagle COH takes between 12- 16 hours
21
21 Questions?
22
22 Working with 35mm slides Catalog in boxes by outing Create title slides Use a Dissolve Unit with 2 projectors Use an AV tape recorder Copy, Crop, Double Exposure Digitize Slides
