Reading Reaction 9 Ms. O’Brien has Steve make two lists of all the people he loves and admires to help keep his morale up. What things would you do to help keep your spirits up if you were in his position? What do you think Steve means by “think about all the tomorrows in your life?” Ms. O’Brien said Steve needs to distance himself from King. Based on what we know do you think Steve is different from King? How or how not?

Drama Study Part Two As we listen to the first 2 scenes of Act Two, you will be focusing on Setting and Conflict. For Conflict, focus on the conflicts from Act One and how they’ve changed, grown, or intensified. For Setting, visualize the attic. What do the rooms look like? The furniture? The kitchen utensils? Pay special attention to stage directions and the Broadway pictures.

Diary of Anne Frank Scene 2 begins on page 553. We’re going to listen to scenes 2 and 3 today. Afterwards you will be given time to work on the Drama Study Part 2 and your new Diary Entry. Drama Study 2 is due tomorrow!

Diary Entry 4 A New Hope! Just like in Anne’s time where they are getting news of an end to the war coming, you are hearing news that you may soon be safe too. People are rising up to oppose Donald Trump. Describe who they are, what are they doing to win? How do you and your family/friends react to the news? Do you celebrate? What do you think about the future?

Reading Reaction 10 Revisit the scene with the inmates (Pg 220-223). Read over their comments about truth and the injustice of jail. What is your response to that? What does it make you think of? We have finally heard Steve’s side of the story. As a jury member, would you believe him? Do you think he is innocent? Explain. O’Brien only calls one other Witness for Steve’s defense. What is your impression of Mr. Sawicki? Do you think he helped Steve’s case? How so?

You will pick a quote from a list of monologues, and in 5-7 sentences explain what it means and why it is important. You will present this to the class.

Extra Credit Entry We are going to watch a documentary on the Holocaust. It will give you a very good picture of the horrors the Jewish people went through. You are to record 5 specific things you learned as you watched. Incomplete entries will get no credit, and trust me you need credit. Add this to the writing section

Extra Credit Entry Answer the following questions to complete the entry Why is it important to tell stories like this? Think about what Anne said knowing all that you know “I still believe people are really good at heart.” She is including even the Nazis in this. How does that make you feel? Do you agree?
