ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Introducing The Knowledge Transfer network — KTN is the UK’s innovation network. — KTN connects people. To speed up innovation, solve problems and find markets for new ideas. — KTN brings together businesses, entrepreneurs, academics and funders to develop new products, processes and services What we do
4
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Interdisciplinary Bringing together businesses and researchers from different sectors. Commercial Introducing innovators to public and private funders and investors. Strategic Connecting people who wouldn’t usually meet to solve innovation challenges. Entrepreneurial Linking people with new ideas and technologies to partners and customers. The Knowledge Transfer Network Connecting people to accelerate innovation
5
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK 16 Industry communities Core thematic networks covering key application areas and underpinning technologies 60,000+ Members An engaged online community of innovators served by a single platform 20 Cross-sector groups Interdisciplinary programmes building communities around priority challenges 15,000+ Delegates per year Hundreds of events bringing people together ‘to make magic happen’ Addressing societal challenges and growing new technologies

ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Sustainability: Horizons Toolkit Innovation starts with thinking about future markets Environmental and Social drivers are as important as Economic and Technological drivers of future markets Most innovators find it difficult to ask themselves the environmental and social questions Horizons is designed to help explore those questions by describing all the factors needed for a sustainable economy Will be used by assessors of proposals!

ktn-uk.org @KTNUK GRAPHENE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP An Overview September 2015
10
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Graphene SIG – Motivation We aim to ensure the UK participates in the commercialisation of graphene to the benefit of the UK economy We do this by : - Providing a networking focus point for the graphene community - Identifying the challenges to be addressed - Highlighting opportunities for collaborative working - Informing direction of public funding
11
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Graphene SIG – Structure The Graphene Community - Homed at www.GrapheneSIG.netwww.GrapheneSIG.net Management & Delivery Team - Dedicated resource to manage, plan and deliver Graphene Innovation Leadership Board - Advisory group to guide and check direction Governance Board - Ensures successful delivery

15
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Who is needed to make it happen? Application development & commercialisation activities Science: Fundamental & Applied Knowhow: Material & Application Graphene raw materials supply Enabling capability & input Graphene enabled applications The Graphene value chain(?) network
16
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Commercialising Graphene Moving Graphene from the lab to the marketplace will be achieved through collaborative effort The UK is home to all the jigsaw pieces - Entrepreneurs with big ideas - Industry sectors with needs and wants - Enablers with unique offerings - Centres with capability and infrastructure - Academia with scientific knowledge We need to put them together
17
ktn-uk.org @KTNUK Supporting the funding competitions Scoping Competitions Connecting organisations and companies wishing to participate to appropriate partners & consortia Providing answers to questions related to the competition Critique of draft project proposals (not writing them!)
