The College of Sustainability- Built on Strength More than 140 academics teach and do research in the area of environment and sustainability across nine Faculties Existing academic programs in six Faculties Outreach activities such as the Cities and Environment Unit, NSEERC, Eco-Efficiency Centre and Ocean Tracking Network Internationally renowned for environmental research

The College of Sustainability Approved June 2008 Interdisciplinary, student-focused forum for collaborative teaching and learning in environment, sustainability and society Programs integrate with a broad range of Dalhousie degrees, providing a rigorous disciplinary basis for responsive, issues- oriented study. A flow of students, teachers and community through the College allows for a constant exchange of ideas, expertise and passions. Environment, sustainability and society will be at the centre of the Dalhousie community.

The College of Sustainability - Approach Issues relating to environment and sustainability are complex and diverse, requiring new ways of problem-solving Challenges such as economic globalization, climate change, energy, water, human population, food and urbanization all need new knowledge, leadership and ideas. Decisions need to be made from many perspectives: social, political, business, scientific, and technological.

Environment, Sustainability and Society - Undergraduate Program Model: Large-scale interdisciplinary, team-taught lecture classes supported by small tutorials in first and second year Interdisciplinary methods and community engagement classes in third year Capstone class in final year - interdisciplinary student teams work with community groups on real-world issues and problems Strong links to community groups and issues, in collaboration with graduate students

The College of Sustainability - Experience & Outcomes A common physical space for the study of sustainability-based issues at Dalhousie University A range of public lectures, seminars and activities will be offered through the College Students graduate with the strength of a disciplinary program and interdisciplinary knowledge, skill and experience Graduates will work in many areas across society: public service, industry, non-profits, and professions

New science and technologies for clean and renewable energy offer opportunities for high value, sustainable employment and self-sufficiency for resource dependant communities in Nova Scotia Opportunities and social constraints around implementing these new technologies in communities are largely unknown The project brings researchers in science, social science, humanities, design and engineering, policy and management together with communities, to help these communities achieve social prosperity and environmental sustainability The College of Sustainability - First Research Project
