ARS (Automatic Response system) intro and demo SOSN 1 seismographic data are collected at Western In the end of current project, OPG 2 needs to have SOSN processed time series and their spectra within 5 minutes after request ARS is the current tool at Western after a number of developments for automating the preparation of OPG seismic data needs ARS is started automatically when an earthquake notification email is received 4 1 SOSN: Southern Ontario Seismographic Network 2 OPG: Ontario Power Generation

ARS (Auto Response System) modules AL2SEED (Arclink to SEED) Qcorrect (Quick Icorrect) ARS (Auto Response System) ENC (Earthquake Notification Checker) Calculator of Source parameters M W and Δσ Interactive Ground Motion Map preparation module All of the programs except Qcorrect are written in PERL Qcorrect is developed in Fortran The Toolbox server-side implements HTML and PHP under Limonade Microframework, and Twitter Bootstrap for styling. For client side interactivity JavaScript is used. 14
15
Send Notification ARS (Automatic Response System): Flow ENC kassatou @uwo.ca Check qkresp@ gmail.com Request ARS Check AL2SEED QCorrect SEED file Processed Data Toolbox Copy 1 2 3 6 Email account Program Data file FTP site (every 10s) 15 M W & Δσ Src. Pars. Run GMT & GMT2JSON IGM-map 4 5
16
ARS : AL2SEED (Arclink to SEED) AL2SEED (Arclink to SEED) Extracts raw time series from SOSN stations for specified time window, in near-real time Creates data file in SEED format Features Data from AL2SEED (SOSN datastream) become available in ~5 minutes (used in first maps) GSC AutoDRM data is available after ~2 hours (update map when available) Accessing data for group is very easy Reduced manual process time of records (if required) from all SOSN stations to less than 1 hour 16
17
ARS: Qcorrect (Quick Icorrect) QCorrect (Quick Icorrect) ICORRECT is our program for windowing, filtering of time series, removal of instrument response, calculation of response spectra and time series Qcorrect is a simplified version of ICORRECT (streamlined outputs save time) Writes outputs in format of reports for OPG 17

20
ARS (Auto Response System) ARS (Automatic Response System) Sample request (simplest): begin date 2013/09/30 time 15:29:00 duration 240 end Send the request to: qkresp@gmail.com (this processes 240s of data starting at the given time and date) 20
21
ARS (Auto Response System) ARS (Automatic Response System) Allows automating data process and posting result when invoked: 1.Reads start time and duration from the request 2.Runs AL2SEED 3.Runs Qcorrect on AL2SEED output 4.Runs M w and Δσ calculation module (part of ARS) 5.Runs IGM-map preparation module 6.Copies all run outputs on Seismotoolbox FTP 7.Sends the FTP link to emails of recipient list 21
22
ARS (Auto Response System) ARS (Automatic Response System) Allows automating data process and posting result Reads requests from an email account Improvements Anyone on the team can initiate data processing of seismic signal for specified window (expertise not required) Allows data processing, posting of results, and sending of notifications remotely Allows people outside SOSN team, including OPG, to process and post network data Allows semi-automated data processing of all SOSN stations to be completed in ~5 minutes 22
23
ARS: ENC (Earthquake Notification Checker) ENC Checks the account: kassatou@uwo.ca Sends request to the account: qkresp@gmail.com 23
24
ARS: ENC (Earthquake Notification Checker) ENC (Earthquake Notification Checker) Checks GSC earthquake notifications in emails Upon receipt of a notification sends a request to the email account checked by ARS Features Allows for real time automated calculation of ground motions of earthquakes using SOSN data Initiates data processing of earthquake ground motions with receipt of GSC alert email This tool combined with AL2SEED, Qcorrect, and ARS allows for processing, posting, and emailing data links about 5minutes after GSC notifications 24
25
ARS: Calculator of source parameters M W and Δσ Determination of source parameters M W and Δσ M W is derived from comparisons of 1Hz PSA measurements with empirical GMPE (Hassani, Yenier model) Δσ is derived from comparisons of 10Hz PSA measurements with empirical GMPE (known M W ) Features Allows for real time prediction of event-specific ground motions for a point or a grid of points Used by IMG-map preparation module 25
