2  Using IPA, we can see that 1 vowel sound = 1 syllable [ f ə ‘t ɒ gr ə f ɪ : ]  PHOTOGRAPHY has 3 vowels, but it has 4 vowel sounds: [ f ə ‘t ɒ gr ə f ɪ : ] So, it has 4 syllables. [ ɪ ks ‘ple ɪ nd ]  EXPLAINED has 4 vowels, but it has 2 vowel sounds: [ ɪ ks ‘ple ɪ nd ] So, it has 2 syllables. SYLLABLES ( 음절 )
