2 Journey 2013 – group from UPMC at PUH/SHY began process 2014 – call for people interested in starting chapters posted in ANIA journal Nursing Informatics Today ◦Karen Edmunds from Excela Health ◦Renee Virtullo from GE Healthcare 2015 – presentation at ANIA annual conference about starting local chapters ◦Kathy Morouse approached the Chapters board member ◦Email communication with Diane Humbrecht

4 Meeting Emails and calls from Karen Edmunds about assisting me with forming the chapter Met on Saturday evening May 16 to discuss ◦How to proceed ◦Zip code areas to include ◦Membership criteria ◦Questions we needed clarified Follow up email to Diane Humbrecht with questions

5 Petition Needed minimum of ten current members to sign petition to begin chapter ◦Karen took to Excela and got 6 signatures ◦Kathy took to UPMC and got 9 signatures Officers must be current members through the length of term (two years) Other board members could be decided at a later time Karen and Kathy met again June 2 to sign forms

8 Email notification to members in defined zip code area Seed money received and bank account opened Officers met July 2 to plan next steps ◦Planned first chapter meeting for early September ◦Discussed board membership and decided roles ◦Planned letter to proposed member ◦Developed agenda ◦Plan for elections for rest of board at meeting

10 Board Members and Roles Membership: Reach out to informatics departments at hospitals within our designated zip code area to join ANIA and enhance membership at our local chapter. Engage colleges and universities that offer Nursing Informatics related classes to also consider membership in ANIA. Education: Contact ANIA to discuss Speakers Bureau opportunities for our future meetings. Develop a brief Learning Needs Assessment for local members to determine education opportunities moving forward. Communication: Acquire email addresses of local chapter members for internal communication purposes. Maintain and update this email address list. Regulation/Advocacy: Report out National and State level issues in nursing/nursing informatics Social: Aid in determination of future local meeting sites. Inquire as to vendor support for future local meetings.
