LESSON: SUMMARIZING TEXTS DEFINITION DEFINITION: To write a summary of a passage is to reduce it to its main idea and key supporting facts. The purpose of writing a summary is to be able to accurately answer questions about the text later and to make inferences about its implied meanings. EXAMPLE EXAMPLE: 1.POEM: “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” by Emily Dickinson 2.MAIN IDEA: Stating that she could not stop for death means that the speaker didn't have a choice about when she was to die. LESSON: CHARACTERISTICS OF DRAMA DEFINITION DEFINITION: Drama is a genre (or type) of literature that is characterized by stage directions, little expository information, monologues, asides, soliloquies, as well as dialogue. EXAMPLE EXAMPLE: “Romeo and Juliet” is a play written by William Shakespeare which tells a story of the impact of the violence between two families on a young couple who is in love.
