1 st Element Food Singapore is a food paradise. Many of our forefathers were immigrants, and as they came to Singapore they brought cuisine unique to their homeland here. Over time, the recipes were tweaked to suit the taste of Singaporeans, and this has resulted in our own unique taste. As time passes, there is mixing of different culture elements, and this has resulted in multi-ethnic food like fish head curry. Notable food include Chilli Crab and Chicken Rice

2 nd Element Singlish English is the main language used in Singapore. Over time, the English language was influenced by the Singapore culture. Elements of Chinese and other dialects are mixed into our sentences, hence giving rise to Singlish. Some Singlish words include: Lah, Leh, Oi In fact, Singlish has become so popular, the Oxford English Dictionary has added 19 Singlish items into its dictionary.

3 rd Element Chope An extremely common word heard all around Singapore. It means to reserve a seat or area by placing small items like tissue paper on the seats that you occupy. Mainly utilized by people who visit hawker centers by themselves and want to reserve a seat before others.

4 th Element Fines Singapore is known as the “Fine City”. Acts that are considered in other countries as harmless and safe may be illegal in Singapore. Notable examples include “No smoking” and “No riding” Multitude of fines imposed. However, despite this, Singapore enjoys a clean environment with low crime rates, showing that these fines may not be so bad.

5 th element HDB HDBs are extremely prominent in Singapore. Wherever one goes, one is able to see blocks of HDB. Due to the shortage of space, the Singapore government builds these to maximize the space give and try to accommodate more people

6 th Element Kiasuism Afraid of losing out. Typical trait of many Singaporeans. Most prominent examples include parents sending their children to tuition even though their child is still young. In fact, there was a case where a parent went around trying to find tuition for his 2 to 3 year old child as he believed that his child was a prodigy. Another example would be parents sending their children to DSA training centers, in hopes of their child being able to secure a place in a top school through DSA.
