Quote: “Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.”IV.i.85 Speaker: 2 nd Apparition Analysis: The apparition tells him that he does not need to be afraid of anyone hurting him, unless they were not born of woman, so Macbeth assumes he has nothing to worry about.

Quote: “Then the liars and swearers are fools; for there are liars and swearers enough to beat the honest men and hang up them.”IV.ii.62 Speaker: Son Analysis: This quote is directed towards Macbeth because he is a liar. Macbeth killed innocent people including Duncan, Macduff's family, Banquo, the guards, and even Lady Macbeth who killed herself because of all the guilt that she could no longer hide. He only killed them to gain power.

Quote: “Angels are bright still, though the brightest fell. Though all things foul would wear the brows of grace, yet grace must still look so.”IV.iii.25 Speaker: Malcolm Analysis: Malcolm compares Macbeth to satan because it is satan who was the 'brightest star'. He fell, leaving God and all good, just like Macbeth who was once good and now turned evil, completely changing who he is.
4
Quote: “That, when they shall be open'd black Macbeth will seem as pure as snow, and the poor state esteem him as a lamb, being compared with my confineless harms.”IV.iii.59 Speaker: Malcolm Analysis: This quote means that looks are deceiving and while Macbeth may appear to others as innocent, he is truly a bad person. Like the quote "pure as snow' was Macbeth's soul, but the power he was receiving changed him completely.

Quote: “Boundless intemperance in nature is a tyranny; it hath been the untimely emptying of the happy throne, and fall of many kings.”IV.iii.76 Speaker: Macduff Analysis: This is Macduff's response to Malcolm when he is testing his loyalty. Malcolm has told Macduff that he would make an awful king, even worse than Macbeth. Is his anger true? Could this be his way of trying to live or is he harboring evil plans?
6
Quote: “Nay, had I power, I should pour the sweet milk of concord into hell, uproar the universal peace, confound all unity on earth.”IV.iii.109 Speaker: Malcolm Analysis: Malcolm is saying that he does not have the necessary qualities to be king and believes he would bring war if he were in power. Malcolm is angry because he had to flee, and his father was murdered.

Quote: “And braggart with my tongue! But, gentle havens, cut short all intermission; front to front bring now this fiend of Scotland and myself; within my sword's length set him; if he 'scape, heaven forgive him too!”IV.iii.268 Speaker: Macduff Analysis: Macduff says that if Macbeth even dares to try to escape from confronting him then heaven forgive him because Macduff wants to confront and kill Macbeth for killing his innocent family.
