3 Sexual Bullying All forms of bullying and particularly sexist, homophobic and transphobic bullying can have a specific sexual dimension or a sexual dynamic and it may be physical, verbal or non-verbal/psychological or involve social media. Behaviours may involve suggestive sexual comments or innuendo including offensive comments about sexual reputation; or using sexual language that is designed to subordinate, humiliate or intimidate. Sexual bullying may be referred to as sexual harassment. Adapted from Preventing and responding to sexist, sexual and transphobic bullying, Safe to Learn Department for Children, Schools and Families, 2009

4 Girls: While sexual bullying impacts on both genders, girls more often experience sexual harassment and bullying than boys. Girls who have been sexually harassed have reported poor body image, loss of self esteem, anger, isolation, mistrust of the opposite sex, and being uncomfortable when talking about sex. Boys: Boys are most often subject to sexual verbal abuse and being called obscene names. Males who have been sexually harassed have reported difficulties in talking, feeling emotionally hurt, feeling uncomfortable, and experiencing anger and self-hate.

7 Personal Boundaries might differ from one person to another – What is yours? Split into two groups and form two equal lines. Each student should face another student from the opposite line. Ask a student from one of the lines to take slow steps towards their partner from the opposite line. Then ask the student who is standing still to indicate when they feel their personal space is about to be invaded by shouting ‘Stop!’.
