1. Saint Catherine Church

2. This landmark dominating Hora sv. Kateřiny is in Baroque style. It was first mentioned in 1450, when only wooden church was standing in that place. Between 1611 and 1612, a new brick church was built on the place of its wooden ancestor.

3. Next to the church, there is a sand-stone statue of Virgin Mary holding Jesus in her arms. The statue was made in 1729.

4. While visiting the church we saw the old organ, the bell, the altar and 13 pictures portraying torment of Jesus Chirst.

5. Theory of devil‘s portraits When we were looking round the church, Mr. Pakosta, the deputy mayor, told us an interesting story.

6. One evening, a group of people were sitting and chatting by the fire. When the fire was fading, there was a lot of smoke. After only smoking ash had been left a Billy goat, which was white, came to the people. Sniffing the smoke the goat suddenly put its nose into the ash.

7. Nobody knew what the billy goad was doing but when it looked at them with its nose and face black, he looked like a devil. Black nose, black face and horns Maybe that´s how pictures of devil appeared.
