MOZART MEETS HAYDN In 1783, Mozart completes his Mass in C minor with Constanze singing the soprano solos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuFA3DmglwI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuFA3DmglwI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVL2V8GQpgw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVL2V8GQpgw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grl1ZvUBoXY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grl1ZvUBoXY In 1784, Mozart meets Haydn and the two become great friends Haydn offers Mozart supplemental lessons, but for the most part the two play music together Mozart writes six string quartets dedicated to Haydn (K. 387, 421, 428, 458, 464 and 465)

PERFORMING CAREER In 1785, Haydn told Leopald Mozart, “I tell you before God, and as an honest man, your son is the greatest composer known to me by person and repute, he has taste and what is more the greatest skill in composition.” From 1782-1785, Mozart composed 3-4 new piano works each week and performed them all around Vienna This led him into his second opera writing session from 1786-87 where he wrote some of his most critically acclaimed operas: The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute. Eine Kleine Nachtmusik was also written during this time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1FSN8_pp_o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1FSN8_pp_o

PIANO WORKS OF MOZART Piano Concerto in Eb Major K. 271 – Watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ztEjqpSaJA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ztEjqpSaJA Vienna Piano Concertos – written primarily to please a wide array of listeners and occupied most of his compositional output during his earlier time in Vienna. Follow traditional three-movement pattern in fast-slow-fast sequence. Often the second movement resembles an aria-like writing style with solo lines flowing out of the piano. The whole works were written and epitomize the sonata-form.

PIANO CONCERTO’S His most notable early piano concerto’s are K 413, 414 and 415 These provide a balance between easy, medium and hard difficulty levels. Here, is K. 415 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqxr0gwq3tY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqxr0gwq3tY

MOZART’S LATER PIANO CONCERTOS Mozart’s later Concertos show a much more refined and complex compositional style than we have seen earlier. K 466, 467 and 488 are ideal examples of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM8CFR01KwQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM8CFR01KwQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2uYb6bMKyI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2uYb6bMKyI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0XfwmiPCA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0XfwmiPCA0

MOZART’S LATE SYMPHONIES Mozart’s late Symphonies are a direct representation of his seriousness, much like Haydn and his later Symphonies. Mozart’s later Symphonies actually are said to have directly influenced Haydn’s later Symphonies. These Symphonies include: K. 385 Haffner, K. 425 Linz, K. 504 Prague, K. 543 in Eb Major, K. 550 in G minor and K. 551 in C major nicknamed Jupiter.
