(be mindful of traffic patterns) Visibility (students are shielded from visual distractions but you can view the area from almost anywhere) Materials are easily accessible for all size students Distinguishable from other areas (carpet remnants or rugs)

9 Pillows, couches, inner tubes (comfortable reading spots for use of students while in the library) Theme for area Featured books of the week (student in charge for the week, create book talk, read passage from book etc…establish guidelines, such as a book can only be recommended once. Tell students they must be able to support recommendations with reasons, quotation, examples book basket with recommended titles) Large display areas for visuals (for posters, book reviews, book swap ads, themes, etc; to pique student curiosity, invite their contributions)

26 OPERATION Establish rules (Mini-lesson with class to explain rules of library and how to take care of it) Color coded plastic bins Label shelves (Help students keep books and display materials orderly. Labels with pictures for younger children.) Librarian (Appoint student to be librarian for day or week) Set up a book repair area with instructions on how to mend torn pages, remove marks in books, cover frayed edges or fix broken binding Newly acquired books should be displayed in a special way
