Target: I will be able to identify legal/illegal uses of drugs and the impact they have on society Ripple Effects of Drug Use: The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) reports that drug abuse has a negative economic impact on our society, costing us approximately $67 billion per year. NIDA also states that getting treatment for drug addiction could reduce these costs Pg. 93

5 Individual: Injuries to drug users, first responders, nurses, etc. can occur during clean ups from explosions exposure to chemicals through spills, fires, and air contaminations, as well as accidental needle sticks. Drug labs can contaminate air causing pollution to the environment 

6 Family: Poverty Emotional Costs Neglect of Self and Children Sex abuse Selling your kids to get drugs Selling yourself to get drugs Drugs and crime are interrelated 

7 Community: Dangerous to the people who live and work in the area Drug labs can contaminate local water supplies and soils, causing health problems for local residents   It can cost $3, ,000 to clean up a lab and make it habitable again

Cost of treatment programs can lie on individuals, nonprofits, and public resources 23.5 million Americans aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem. Time lost from work costs companies, individuals, and families Summary:
