Roman Daily Life Guiding Question: What was daily life like for Romans during the early days of the empire?
2
Title the next page “Brainstart: Roman Daily Life” Think for a moment about the different aspects of an average day in your life. Then, identify 5 ways your daily life would be different if you had been born in ancient Rome, instead of the modern world. Also, hypothesize (educated guess) how things might be different depending on whether you were born a Roman patrician, plebeian, or even a slave. List these out as bulleted notes.

Daily Life in Rome Spoke Diagram You will be visiting 8 stations related to daily life in Rome At each station, determine importance & add the most important information to your diagram Information about poor Romans goes on the inner wheel, information about wealthy Romans goes on the outer wheel. You may work at your own pace with a partner of your choosing. No more than 2 groups at a station.
4
Daily Life in Rome Sensory Figure On the next page of your notebook, visualize and draw a detailed, colorful picture of either a wealthy or a poor Roman teen. NO STICK FIGURES. Don’t forget to add historically accurate items that your figure might be carrying or wearing. Using the senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste) and action verbs (thinking, walking, carrying, speaking), label and explain at least five features of your figure Examples: –A line drawn to coins in the hand of a wealthy teen might be labeled, “These coins will be used to buy cheese and bread for lunch from a thermopolia.” –A line drawn to the mouth might be labeled, “This young Roman can almost taste the porridge he will soon eat for breakfast.”
