A video: Perfecting Flight, Bob Hoover This documentary is about legendary aviator, R.A. Bob Hoover. As a World War II fighter pilot and POW, a test pilot, a business executive and show pilot, Hoover had a successful and storied career that spanned the Golden Age of Test Flight. And at 92-years-old, Hoover takes the controls of a North American Sabreliner once more, showing the world that he still has the right stuff. Harrison Ford narrates. It’s about 45 minutes long … it’s worth the time! https://vimeo.com/152663476

Good News! Walnuts are Lower in Calories than Label Suggests More effective than the biggest badest Statin drug on the market. Eat nuts every day. A typical 28-gram serving actually contains 146 calories 21 percent fewer than the 185 calories currently assigned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Mosquito Season is upon us! Be Prepared. Info posted on Bulletin Board. My Favorite This Year: Repel Lemon Eucalyptus (Walgreens, Home Depot, Cabela’s)

An Average Day Life Is Good!
9
What’s your basic mission on an average day … and everyday? Above all else, what do you want to make sure you do every single day? Return home safely (without injury).
10
So … what’s your strategy? What’s the plan?
11
Wander aimlessly about and hope nothing bad happens? Yeah … that will work (on an average day).
12
Is every single day of your life going to be average? Nope … Probably Not.
13
So … when does an average day turn into an unusual day? When trouble (danger) comes along.
14
On the average day … It’s probably a good idea to be on the lookout for trouble. So when the average day turns into an unusual day, you will be a step ahead of everybody else. Remember, Proactive is way better that Reactive. Be thinking What could go wrong? And, What can I do about it?
15
What could go wrong? What can I do about it? Does that sound Familiar?
16
Remember the ORM Process Steps: 1. Identify the hazards 2. Assess the risks 3. Analyze the risk control measures 4. Make control decisions 5. Risk control implementation 6. Supervise and review Executive Summary: Figure out what could go wrong. Do something about it.
17
OK … Since we just demonstrated that this stuff could be useful in everyday life (where you will use it the most) … Let’s do a quick practice session.
18
Today … just focus on the first two: Remember the ORM Process Steps: 1. Identify the hazards 2. Assess the risks 3. Analyze the risk control measures 4. Make control decisions 5. Risk control implementation 6. Supervise and review Figure out what could go wrong. Is it dangerous? How bad is it going to hurt?
19
You need to be really good at the first step. It’s the most important part of the process. Why?
20
It’s impossible to “do something about it” if you haven’t identified “it” first.
21
These first two steps are also the most useful in everyday life. Most of the hazards you will encounter are not going to be that complicated. As long as you can identify the potential hazard you will be in good shape!

23
So … right now we are just going to practice: The Hazard (s) (what could go wrong) The Risk (s) (how bad is it going to hurt) Probability (what are the odds?) Severity (how serious will the injury be?) Got It?
24
OK … See if you can identify the following Hazards and assess the Risks
33
OK … Here are a few slightly more realistic pictures. 1. Identify the Hazard 2. Assess the Risks Probability AND Severity

Men: 36” waist MAXIMUM When the 36’s start getting tight do something …NOW!
41
OK … That’s enough practice for one day. Everybody got it?
42
How many of you instinctively started mentally formulating Risk Mitigation plans (the do something about it part)? Yep … me too!
43
That’s why if you can identify the hazard (danger) you are going to be in good shape. The “what am I going to do about it” part is usually instinctive (and usually not that complicated).
44
Some “Big Picture” Thoughts: Most hazards are obvious. However … some are NOT obvious. Sometimes the risks can be mitigated (reduced) to an acceptable level … Sometimes they can’t. Sometimes, it’s better to just walk (or run) away.
45
Life is full of risks… Don’t be afraid to accept a little risk.
46
On the other hand, Don’t hesitate to walk (or run) away if the risk is too high.
47
Every Average Day… Be vigilant (pay attention) Look for situations, things, and people that could be dangerous. Always be thinking “what could go wrong?” and “what can I do about it?”.
48
Eat nuts! Pay Attention! Have some fun!

Questions? Comments? Did everyone sign the roster? I’ll see you next month.
