INTRODUCTION The restaurants have to compete with each other to attract customers. Usually restaurants which provide good food and services will gain a lot of customers. Restaurant menu and ordering system is a software package to facilitate ordering with traditional restaurant.

PRESENT SYSTEM In today’s time, menu ordering in the restaurants are done normally by calling the waiter asking for the menu book and letting him to write down the food items to be ordered by the customers,

PROPOSED SYSTEM For restaurant which is not a fast food restaurant and is middle to large size restaurant, a PDA with its wireless technology can be implemented to improve the restaurant service. There are several benefits that can be achieved by implementing PDA. Introduction of PDA in restaurant will impact the organization in various ways: Product catalogue Order unit Communicating function Billing information

Comparison with existing system With PDA, the waiters or waitresses do not need to waste time on going from tables to the kitchen all the time. The customer orders will be well organized. There is no need for the waiter or waitress to go to the kitchen to ask for the food availability.

OVERVIEW The Restaurant Menu and Ordering System is a software package to facilitate ordering within a traditional restaurant. The customer is able to : view the menu place orders call the waiter and organize the final bill through the surface computer interface built into their table. Waiters are able to: initialize a table for customers control table functions remotely to assist customers confirm orders, send orders to food preparation staff and finalize the customer’s bill – all through their wireless tablet PC

SCOPE Three related concepts are encompassed by the general scope of the Restaurant Menu and Ordering System. The first pertains to the replacement of paper-based menus using an electronic format second relates to a complementary electronic strategy for the front of house handling of a customer’s order and the third surrounds the process of transferring said electronic orders to the kitchen for preparation.

BENEFITS Greater flexibility in menus increase in restaurant productivity capacity for extensive business auditing. Menu updates can be rolled out at any time with no extra labour from printing and distributing new menus (allowing for more dynamic pricing and content changes) accuracy ensured as the software system takes responsibility for a customer’s order.

CURRENTLY IN USE: Restaurants in Europe, the United States and Japan are testing technology to let diners order their food direct from a screen at their table instead of depending on a fellow human being to note their choice.

CONCLUSION The objective of this project is to build an application for pocket PC and application for PC (Kitchen PC). Which can be used for ordering in restaurants. And thus reducing manual work and making the traditional ordering system automated and faster.
