Overview What is mobile computing? Types of mobile computing Advantages of Mobile computing Limitations of Mobile computing Applications of Mobile computing
4
What is Mobile Computing? Mobile computing is a generic term describing one's ability to use technology while moving, as opposed to portable computers, which are only practical for use while deployed in a stationary configuration.
5
Types of Mobile Computers Many types of mobile computers have been introduced since the 1990s, including the:1990s Wearable computer Wearable computer Personal digital assistant/Enterprise digital assistant Personal digital assistantEnterprise digital assistant Smart phone Smart phone Carputer Carputer Ultra-Mobile PC Ultra-Mobile PC
6
WEARABLE COMPUTER Wearable technology has been used in behavioral modeling, health monitoring systems, information technologies and media monitoring systems, information technology and media development.
7
Wearable computers are especially useful for applications that require computational support while the user's hands, voice, eyes, arms or attention are actively engaged with the physical environment.
8
One of the main features of a wearable computer is consistency. There is a constant interaction between the computer and user, ie. there is no need to turn the device on or off.interaction Another feature is the ability to multi-task. These devices can be incorporated by the user to act like a prosthetic.prosthetic
9
Uses of Wearable Computer 1980s The 1980s saw the rise of more general-purpose wearable computers. In 1981 Steve Mann designed and built a backpack-mounted 6502- based computer to control flash- bulbs, cameras and other photographic systems. Steve Mann

PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANT A personal digital assistant (PDA), also known as a palmtop computer Many PDAs can access the internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide Area Networks(WWANs). Many PDAs employ touchscreen technology.internetintranetsextranetsWi-FiWireless Wide Area Networkstouchscreen

ADVANTAGES OF MOBILE COMPUTING 1- providing wider reach. 2- reducing transaction cost 3- streamline business processes. 4- competitive pricing. 5- reducing time to order.
21
LIMITATIONS OF MOBILE COMPUTING Insufficient bandwidth Security standards Power consumption Transmission interferences Potential health hazards Human interface with device
