2 Important Dates: Project needs to be completed and turned in on Thursday, April 10 th Class Presentation will be scheduled for Thursday, April 10 th /Friday, April 11 th Your grade will be sent to CTE on Friday, April 11 th Revisions will be the week of April 21 st to April 25 th Competition will be Saturday, April 26 th

3 What is a Capstone Project? This is a graduation requirement for CTE students. Students are expected to work on a team (2-5 members) to develop a detailed project plan with a project focus that demonstrates their understanding and application of Information Technology. All Students must complete a Capstone Project, enter into Competition, and get Certified in MOS/MTA. Your project is to reflect what you have learn over the three years. You are the creator of your project! You pick your own topic. You can compete in Web Development or Gaming.

4 Project requirements as sent to me by CTE: Each plan must be graded by both an English teacher and IT teacher. Each project must represent their cumulative skill level as well as awareness of industry knowledge. Points will also be given for both presentation skills and their school-based employability readiness status. Students are encourage to work with Not-for –profits on community focused projects and will earn bonus points if they do.

5 Development of Project Plan/per CTE Students will prepare a detailed Project Plan to comply with the written component of their Capstone requirement and the Judging Criteria. The following are the key components of a project plan: a scope document defining the project at its inception a timeline for the project including estimated hours to complete and actual hours expended a list and written explanation of the applications used to manage the project a list and written explanation of the development software used in the project a list of the project team members with a written explanation of their roles and expertise a final summary document which outlines what was achieved and any lessons learned Also, each team member must provide a professional resume’ detailing their role and responsibilities on the project and any additional work experience, qualifications, awards and certifications Note: The presentation to the judges at the District-Level competition will include: Written Project Plan (as defined above) A PowerPoint or Keynote Storyboard presentation.

6 Project Scope Cleary define expectations for IT projects, construction projects, and business projects with this Scope of Work. A Scope of Work is the single most important document for a project since it defines and identifies project expectations in writing. Ensure all of the parties understand and accept the project’s timeline, goals, and objectives. Avoid disputes, disagreements, lack of payment, and unsatisfied parties by customizing this Scope of Work to fit the specific needs of your project.

7 So, what do you have to do? You will have to create a document for your project that will include the following: –Cover Page. –Table of contents. –Group Name, Group Members names, roles played and expertise. –Description of your project. Explanation on how you intend to solve this problem – this is your description of your project. – State your problem – Describe the problem. Software you are using to solve your problem –Your solution. Explanation on how you intend to solve this problem. –Timeline, include actual hours and estimated hours (GNATT chart). –Documentation of your project –Printed copy of your coding –Printed screen scene of your project –Navigation map for HTML/Object tree of files for your game. –Your poster! The poster reflects your project. Think of it as an ad! It visually explains your project. –Test Plan –Implementation of project. Any instructions on how view your website or publish your website. –Summary of project.

9 Remember - Due Dates: March 10 th – Your Project Description – typed! March 14th - Your timeline! Create using EXCEL in GNATT Chart format. March 17 th – April 10 th - Working on Capstone Project March 21 st – Your first draft of your project March 28 th – Your second draft of your project April 4 th – Your e-portfolio is due (w/current resume and work samples) April 7 th – 9 th You should be finalizing your project April 10 th Project Due – Day 1 Presentations in class April 11 th Day 2 Presentations April 21 st – 25 th Last minute revisions on project – getting ready for competition April 26 th – Capstone Competition
