Supplier Diversity A business development tool 1.allows equal access from non-traditional suppliers to be introduced to large corporate and public procurement entities. 2.large corporate and public procurement entities identify and choose to use a diverse supplier as a vendor in their supply chains. 2.diverse suppliers (aboriginal, minority, women, gay/lesbian) have a fair opportunity to tender for contracts.

The Business Case Women-led firms are under-represented < 3% of corporate/gov’t contracts are awarded to Women Business Enterprises Yet Women make or influence 85% of all purchasing decisions Women in the future will control two thirds of consumer wealth Room to grow in Canada: Women owned business average annual revenue $563,000 Women-owned business start more businesses but don’t achieve the same growth as male counterparts (average male revenue $1.1Million)

Canadian Landscape Supplier diversity implemented in Canada by establishing a “special program” Special Program must: Identify eligibility Be monitored and evaluated. Entities implementing special programs must encourage diverse suppliers to participate and state they are committed to the advancement of diverse suppliers.

What We Have Learned Supplier diversity creates opportunities in corporate supply chains (B to B sales) Diverse suppliers need to start small and learn how and where to enter corporate supply chains. We need more knowledge related to the anchor corporations that have implemented processes. Supplier Diversity is not a set aside. Diverse suppliers must earn sales.
