Before listening What can you do before the listening to get ready? Read the situation.

Task 1 Read an introduction to the listening task. What can you learn from it? Uslyšíte pořad v rádiu, ve kterém moderátor seznamuje posluchače s historií známé americké silnice Route 66. Monolog – mluví 1 osoba, něco jako neformální předánška Rádio – mohou tam být znělky apod., oslovování posluchačů Téma – Route 66 – USA, cestovaní, historie

Task 1 Do you know anything about the topic? Try to think if you know already something about the topic and also try to guess what they could be talking about.

Before listening What can you do before the listening to get ready? Read the sentences carefully. Try to guess what kind of infomration is missing and be as specific as possible!

Task 2 Read the sentence. What could the missing information be? How do you know? The name of the radio programme is _________. History in History.

Task 2 Now take the worksheet on page 4. Read all the sentences and guess, what information is missing. 13 year – it is a road, so and it is about history so probably 19xx 14 number – it is a highway, so probably at least 100 km – it is USA it can be also several thousands 15 nickname 16 preposition IN  month, season 17 noun – what could be supplied – soldiers, weapons (e.g. not water or food because these are supplies) 18 exact date 19 number up to 99

TIPS This will make listening much easier. You know what to expect, so you know what to concentrate on. And you only check your information, which is much easier.

During first listening What should you do while you are listening for the first time? Try to compare your suggestions with what is in the text. You should be able to get the right answer in about half of the items.

TIPS Take notes about things you are not able to write correctly immediately. E.g. Spelling a name quickly – ar – eidž – ou – dabl jú – en – í – why Long number – two handrid tausnd – sixty - 5 Then when you have time rewrite them correctly E.g. Rhowney, 250.065

TIPS The sentences are ordered in the same way as the information appears in th recording. This will help you to know when the information you still do not know is coming.

During second listening What should you do while you are listening for the first time? If you already think to know the correct answer, check it. If not, concentrate on the particular place.

TIPS If you are not sure with spelling, still write the word. If the word is understandable, it will be counted as correct answer. If there are numbers, rather write them as numerals (65) than writing them in words (sixty five). It will save time and energy. Write in legible script!! If it cannot be read, it is seen as incorrect answer.
