Teacher Guide This lesson is designed to teach kids to ask a critical thinking question that you can’t just put into a search box to solve. To do that, we encourage them with smaller questions that search can help them answer. Make sure that you read the notes for each slide: they not only give you teaching tips but also provide answers and hints so you can help the kids if they are having trouble. Remember, you can always send feedback to the Bing in the Classroom team at BingInTheClassroom@Microsoft.com. You can learn more about the program at bing.com/classroom and follow the daily lessons on our Partners In Learning site. Most of the towns on or near the San Juan Mountain range in southwest Colorado began as mining camps in the 19 th and early 20 th centuries. These days, the major gold and silver mines have been shuttered and the region now embraces its status as a destination for nature lovers. Summer’s end doesn’t put a damper on tourism in the area, as ski resorts take advantage of the snowfall that covers the region, starting in late autumn. Of course, for a few weeks, the aspen forests offer a splash of fall color before giving over entirely to winter’s blanket of white. Describe life in a mining camp in the 19th and early 20th century.
