Strengths of Kohlberg’s Theory
Cross-cultural studies confirm that children of various cultures progress through Kohlberg’s pre-conventional level into the stages of the conventional level. Theory reinforces the fact that as our thinking matures, our behavior becomes less selfish and more caring (more “moral”.)

Weaknesses of Kohlberg’s Theory
Post-conventional level is the MOST controversial aspect of the theory Appears mostly in societies that value individualism, so theory could be perceived as biased against collectivist cultures Carol Gilligan – criticizes theory for being biased against Western women whose morality may be based on caring relationships, rather than on abstract, impersonal principles. Gilligan claims Kohlberg’s theory is too focused on autonomy and justice.
