A. Perin TE-CRG, 06 April 2009 6 Practical implementation Reuse existing flanges / springs DN 200 : same as the ones installed on the dipoles DN 100 : same as used on the rest of LHC (ISO K + springs) Installation on the link rectangular cut in the interconnecion sleeve saddle "patch" with DN200 port welded onto the interconnection sleeve. Validated on prototype. Helium discharge direction for DN100 on DFBM CL module: horizontal discharge will need a deflector. Installation of elbow is impractical and would require demounting of the service chimney. for DN200: two possibilities (see next slide): short duct with deflector Relief valve installed on link of DFBMM.5L6

A. Perin TE-CRG, 06 April 2009 7 Pressure relief for the DFBM / DFBA LCM "standard" links DN200 valve DN100 valve DN200 valve DN100 valve Short duct + deflectorLong duct Deflector for DN100 valve Deflector for DN200 valve Short duct + deflectorLong duct +- Reduced risk of interference with other equipment / survey - applicable with small variants to all DFBMs - better access during welding - no mechanical risk to the link - No need of deflector on DN200 - More defined flow during discharge - Only one item. Cannot be demounted. -- Needs an additional deflector (but can be done later) - flow of helium less controled - deflector can be demounted - possible interference with other equipment. Needs to be checked for each DFBM. Possible variants. (time !!!) - not applicable for DFBMD & DFBMH - reduced access during welding - momentum on link if bad handling Preferred solution
