Job Performance Requirement 10-30 Setting Up for a Drafting Operation

A The placement of a hard sleeve and strainer directly into a water source requires engine placement near the water source—slightly at an angle. JPR 10-30A

B Connect the hard sleeve to the engine inlet. JPR 10-30B

C Attach a strainer and guide rope to the other end of the sleeve. JPR 10-30C

D The hard sleeve and strainer are attached to the pumper’s inlet and the engine moves forward as the crew positions the sleeve into the water. JPR 10-30D

E If a non-floating strainer is used, the rope also keeps the strainer from resting on the bottom. Non-floating strainers should be well under the water’s surface to prevent drawing in of air. When in place, the engine is stopped, the line is secured, and drafting operations begin. JPR 10-30E
