Introduction Gustavo Miranda EDU 695: MAED Capstone Professor Shannon O’Day Ashford University November 11, 2014

Who Am I? I am 27 years old I live in Tucson, AZ I am currently employed as a Mathematics Laboratory Specialist at Pima Community College I have been employed as a Math Specialist for over two years I love Halloween! I dressed up for work as the character from The Crow

Professional Goals A professional goal that I have is after I earn my master’s degree, I want to teach at a higher education institution in the subject of Mathematics or Education A second professional goal that I have is to work in a student services department where I can assist students to be successful in college A third professional goal is to publish a book, and become an administrator at a higher education institution

MAED Program Support The MAED program has supported me in many ways – Assisted me in becoming a better professional – Developed new methods in teaching students – Gained more options in working at a higher education institution – Provided me with a pathway to achieve my personal and professional goals

Reflection of Most Influential Design and Development in MAED Program A challenge that I experienced during my coursework with the MAED program is when I had to design a curriculum for a unit of study for a mathematics course.

Why it Was Challenging? This past assignment was challenging because I had to develop my own curriculum for a class that contained lectures, assignments, and assessments Also, it was difficult because I had to include many details as to how I was to utilize materials, how I was to lecture, what assignments the students will use, any technology, how my teaching strategies serve the various learning styles, and explain my reasoning for using assessments

How Did I Overcome? I overcame this challenge by taking each part of the unit separately and explaining every detail that I could to inform the reader of my planned curriculum Also, I helped myself by remembering how I would change a classroom setting if I were a teacher and used my own thoughts on how to improve the learning environment

How it Sharpened My Knowledge? From this assignment, I was able to gain more knowledge in how I would teach and create an effective learning environment Also, it taught me that there is more to planning a curriculum than providing lecture and assignments to students. I have been able to utilize this knowledge in my current work setting and share it with my colleagues as well

A Quote Symbolizing Framework for 21 st Century Learning In 21 st century learning it is important for students to learn life and career skills In the Framework for 21 st century learning (n.d.), it mentions that students will have the “ability to navigate the complex life and work environments in the globally competitive information age requires students to pay rigorous attention to developing adequate life and career skills”
