SWBAT- Identify uses for integers in real-life -Order integers -Calculate absolute value & understand its meaning
2
9/19/12Integers Integers – The set of whole numbers and their opposites *If a and b are integers, then the inequality a < b means that a lies to the left of b on the number line
3
Absolute Value – The distance between the number and 0 (always positive except 0) ex: -5 = 5, 3 = 3 Opposites – Two numbers that have the same absolute value but opposite signs ex: 4 and -4

Ex 1. Draw a number line and plot -3, 0, and 1 Evaluate each. Ex 2. 9 = Ex 3. -8 = Ex 4. 0 = Ex 5. x + 13 for x = -4 Ex 6. x = 3 Ex 7. The opposite of 8 is ____.
5
Ex 8. Order 5, -5, 3, -2, -1, 0 from least to greatest.
6
Ex 9. The average height of a mature Redwood tree is 220 feet, give or take 20 feet. Graph the equation x – 220 = 20 on a number line to determine the least and greatest average height of a Redwood tree.
