Due to recent extreme low temperatures tender plants may be damaged. Examples would be Camelias, Gardenias, English Hawthorne and some varieties of Azaleas. Nothing can be done right now but be patient.

When the tender plant’s sap starts to rise in the spring, then the damage will show as dead limbs or dead plants. After spring growth has come, then the damaged areas can be pruned.

Don't get in a big rush to remove what seems to be a dead plant. It may have enough energy left to put new growth out from the root! This can take several weeks after the spring growth flush.

Pruning can be done on hollies, junipers, crepe myrtles and any plant that does not bloom in the spring.

February is a good time to apply pre-emergence weed seed inhibitor on the shrub beds and the lawns.

Pre-emergence weed seed inhibitor will reduce the amount of crabgrass and other seed borne weeds in your landscape into the late summer. Save your back and apply pre- emergence!
