Perkins funding made a difference at our college by: Funding made a difference to us by enabling us to: Initiate a new A.A.S. CTE program (Applied Engineering Technology) Purchase equipment to modernize our Automotive program Purchase instructional supplies to improve our technical programs

Our college’s best practice using Perkins funds is: Developed and used a Mini Grant application process for the use of funds to purchase technology to initiate, improve, expand, and modernize CTE programs.

1. We strengthened the academic, career and technical skills of our students by: Linking secondary and postsecondary CTE courses and programs Evaluating and revising CTE programs of study

2. We linked career and technical education at the secondary level with career and technical education at the postsecondary level: Working with the school system and industry partners, we developed and will continue to develop CTE Pathways (CCP Pathways) in: Welding Electrical Systems Early Childhood

3. We provided students with strong experience in, and understanding of all aspects of an industry by: Students participating in field trips to industry Welding class to Nucor Steel Automotive class to local dealership service departments HVAC and Electrical classes to Habitat projects Industry representatives speaking to classes Automotive Welding Criminal Justice Mechanical Engineering Career Fairs Program Advisory Committees that assist in revising programs of study

4. We developed, improved, or expanded the use of technology in career and technical education by: Providing funds through mini grants to purchase technology: Networking and computer repair supplies Lego Robotics Pro Cut (On Vehicle Brake Lathe) Certification Kit HVAC Load Calculation software PC’s for skills lab for Early Childhood, Spanish interpreter, and interpreter education

5. We provided professional development by: Faculty encouraged to participate in PD through the VLC Flipped Classroom Blended Learning Social Media Tools Faculty attend various PD events related to their discipline: Automotive – SnapOn Tool Training and Certification Nursing – Progression of Students Moodle Gradebook TurnitIn (Plagiarism Software) Student Planning

6. We developed and implemented evaluations of our career and technical education programs by: Purposefully gathering and assessing program data on: Enrollment (Race, Age, Gender) by program Progression Completion of degree, diploma, certificate

7. We Initiated, improved, expanded, and modernized quality career and technical education programs, including relevant technology by: Beginning in Spring 2016, we started an Applied Engineering Technology A.A.S. program Hired FT faculty Reduced teaching load to focus on program recruitment and development Developed program of study (including potential CTE Pathway program) Purchased instructional supplies to support instruction AET Faculty serves on industry advisory board

8. We provided services and activities that are of sufficient size, scope, and quality to be effective as evidenced by: 1,000+ students enrolled in CTE programs Programs are developed based on the NCCCS Curriculum Standards and meet the needs of our service area Programs and courses are developed with input from industry and include appropriate program and student learning objectives All programs participate in a Program Review process that includes an annual updating of program data (graduation, employment, achievement of learning outcomes)

9. We provided activities to prepare special populations students who are enrolled in CTE courses by: STARS (Student Success Center) orients and advises ALL CTE students during their first 12 semester hours of credit. Provided workshops to CTE students on: Time Management Online class success Study Skills Resume Writing Decision Making Exam Survival

Closing Thoughts We will develop a mini grant application to use for PD requests in the 2016/17 program year
